Smart bulbs fail to connect for the same reasons as most smart-home gadgets: the Wi-Fi band, the reset state or the app.
1. Use 2.4GHz Wi-Fi
Many smart bulbs work only on 2.4GHz. Connect your phone to a 2.4GHz network for setup.
2. Power It Correctly
Make sure the bulb is screwed in fully and the switch is on. Smart bulbs need constant power, so do not use a wall dimmer or switch that cuts the power.
3. Put the Bulb in Pairing Mode
Most bulbs enter pairing mode when you switch them on and off several times (the exact sequence is in the manual), and then the bulb blinks or breathes.
4. Reset the Bulb
If it will not pair, reset it using the manufacturer’s steps, then try again.
5. Get Closer to the Router
Do setup near the router, and move the bulb afterwards.
6. Give the App Permissions
Allow location and nearby-device access, and turn off any VPN during pairing.
7. Check Router Settings
Disable MAC filtering and guest-network isolation temporarily, and use WPA2 if WPA3-only causes trouble.
8. Connect to Alexa or Google Home After the Bulb Works in Its Own App
Set up the bulb in the maker’s app first, then link the app to your voice assistant.
