Welcome — and thank you for being here. tipontech is a one-person project: my honest point of view on the budget tech I come across, from car gadgets and dash cams to charging, audio, wearables and more. Before you dive into the guides, here are a few things worth knowing. It will take a minute, and it might save you some money and hassle.
How this site works
- It’s my point of view. I write about gear I would genuinely consider buying myself, and I try to be honest about the catches, not just the hype.
- Some links are affiliate links. If you buy through one, I may earn a small commission — at no extra cost to you. It never changes what I recommend, and there are no paid placements or sponsored picks.
- Prices and details change constantly. Prices, ratings, specs, coupons and stock move all the time. Always check the live listing before you buy — the number you see there is the one that counts.
- I’m not a testing lab. I can’t bench-test everything. Where I flag a caveat or a “watch out for this”, please take it seriously.
Batteries, chargers & anything that plugs in
A lot of what I cover contains a lithium battery — power banks, chargers, wearables, cameras, lights, and more. Handled well they are perfectly safe, but a faulty, damaged or counterfeit lithium battery can overheat, swell and catch fire, and a lithium fire is fierce and hard to put out. So please treat them with a little respect:
⚠️ Charge where you can see it. Never leave batteries or chargers charging unattended or overnight. Keep them off beds, sofas and carpet while charging, give wireless chargers room to breathe, use cables rated for the wattage, and stop using anything that gets hot, swells, leaks, smells or has a frayed cable. Buy from reputable sellers, and be wary of suspiciously cheap “huge-capacity” claims.
Sizing for clothes & shoes
If a guide covers anything you wear — a rain suit, gloves, a jacket, footwear — read the size chart, but don’t fully trust it.
👕 Order one, then decide. Size charts online are a rough recommendation, not a promise, and they are often off — commonly a size or two smaller than you expect. Order a single item first to check the real fit before you buy more, and for anything pricey you only want to order once, message the seller for the actual measurements in centimetres before you place the order.
One firm rule on safety gear
I don’t recommend life-safety-critical protective gear — motorcycle helmets, body armour, impact protection and the like — on price alone. Those are things you should buy new, certified (ECE / DOT / CE) and from a source you trust. Budget is smart for comfort and convenience; it is not the place to gamble with crash protection.
