Bluetooth Earbuds Not Connecting, One Side Dead or Low Volume? Fixes

Bluetooth earbuds that will not connect, that only play from one side, or that sound quiet almost always have a fix that costs nothing. Start at the top.

Earbuds Won’t Connect

  • Charge them. A flat earbud or case can look like a connection fault.
  • Forget the earbuds in your phone’s Bluetooth list, put them back in the case, and pair again from scratch.
  • Check they are not connected elsewhere. Earbuds often connect automatically to the last device they paired with, such as a tablet or laptop.
  • Reset the earbuds. Most models have a reset routine (often holding the touch area or case button for several seconds). The exact steps depend on the model, so check the manual.

One Earbud Not Working

  • Put both in the case, close it, and wait a few seconds so they resync as a pair. If they still do not, use the model’s reset procedure to re-pair both.
  • Clean the charging contacts on the earbud and in the case with a dry cotton swab.
  • Check the earbud is charging in the case.
  • Clean the speaker mesh gently, since earwax can block sound on one side.

Volume Too Low

  • Clean the mesh over the speaker with a soft dry brush. Earwax buildup is the most common cause.
  • Check the volume on both the earbuds and the phone.
  • On some Android phones, turning off “absolute volume” in developer options fixes volume mismatches with certain earbuds.
  • On iPhone, check that Reduce Loud Sounds is not limiting volume.
  • Try a proper ear-tip fit. A poor seal makes the sound thin and quiet.

When to Give Up
