1. Clean the Surface

Dust and dashboard polish stop suction cups and adhesive from gripping. Wipe the surface with an isopropyl alcohol wipe and let it dry before fitting.

2. Check for a Textured Dashboard

Suction cups and gel pads need smooth, flat surfaces. A textured or soft-touch dashboard is the most common reason for failure. Mount on the windshield or use a vent or CD-slot mount instead.

3. Wash the Gel Pad or Suction Cup

If a gel pad or suction cup has lost grip, wash it with lukewarm water and a little soap, let it air-dry (do not wipe it with a cloth) and try again.

4. Beat the Heat

Heat softens gel and adhesive, and a hot cabin can make a mount slide off. Avoid leaving the phone on the holder in a parked, sun-baked car, and fit the mount when the surface is cool.

5. Fit Vent Mounts Properly

Vent clips work best on horizontal slats. If the clip slips, try a different vent, or a mount with a hook that grips behind the slat, and do not overload it with a heavy phone and case.

6. Mind the Weight

A large phone in a thick case is heavy. Check that the holder is rated for its weight, and avoid extending the arm far from the mount.

7. Magnetic Mounts: Place the Plate Correctly

Stick the metal plate flat on the back of the phone or inside the case, in the centre for balance. A plate that is off-centre or on a curved case will make the phone tilt or drop. Metal plates can also interfere with wireless charging, so position them with care.

8. Replace the Holder
